ABOUT US

Our Beginning

In 2017, owners Adam & Christina Pennypacker visited a local area axe house for the first time – Adam was hooked. Adrenaline, competition and beer – all of his favorite things in one place! So he came home and immediately built one for the backyard. He spent many days just thumping axes into a pine target in the grass with friends. The concept of PRIMITIVE AXE was born.

Know Before You Go

What is axe throwing?2022-09-05T20:54:04-04:00

Axe throwing is one of the fastest growing sports in the country, and you can drink beer while you do it! Seriously though, it is a high energy competition that pits you against your friends and family in round robin and single elimination formats. Scoring is gauged by your ability to get a sharp axe stuck in a painted target repeatedly to win the event. Like darts, but actually fun. We follow NATF ( National Axe Throwing Federation) scoring rules in both group events and league competition.

How much does axe throwing cost?2022-09-05T20:52:59-04:00

A 2 hr axe throwing session costs $40pp. Walk -ins are $25/person during walk in hours. We also offer matinee and Sunday specials for our less busy time slots. (As low as $30/person). Please see our walk-in page for hours and FAQ. Please call our facility to inquire about our matinee and Sunday specials.

Is it safe?2022-09-05T20:52:45-04:00

Of course it is! Maybe it doesn’t look it, but Axe throwing, if played properly, is a safe sport. That being said, every sport is only as safe as its participants.  When rules are followed, good things usually happen. Listen to your coach and use common sense.

Do you allow spectators?2022-11-25T20:18:57-05:00

No we do not; spectators are not permitted. We do have exclusions for group events. Please contact us for details. (if necessary, there will be a $25 charge per spectator, if there are no medical excuses).

Is there an age restriction for axe throwing?2022-09-05T20:51:05-04:00

Participants aged 12+ must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian in order to throw, and the guardian must also sign the participant’s waiver. 18 and older must sign their own waivers with valid ID. You must be 21 to consume alcohol. ID’s will be checked at the front desk for EVERY PARTICIPANT regardless of age. All patrons must have valid identification or they will be refused entry. NO EXCEPTIONS. Anyone under the age of 21 observed consuming alcohol in the facility will be asked to leave without a refund.

What if I don’t have a group?2022-11-25T20:18:05-05:00

Singles and groups of up to 6 people are welcome at the facility as walk-ins. It is more fun to play with a group (6 or more is ideal, and strongly recommended) , but if you like to fly solo, we are happy to have you! Walk-ins receive safety training and 1-on-1 throwing instruction with one of our well trained coaches.

Do you teach us how to throw?2022-08-22T17:41:52-04:00

No, we just let you wield sharp objects at will! Of course we teach you how to throw. Every group is assigned a coach for their entire session to teach you all of the ins and outs of Axe throwing. Safety, scoring, throwing and competition rules will all be covered. Our coaches are there for your enjoyment and your safety. Gratuity is appreciated!

Can I have friends or co-workers in the room with me?2022-08-22T17:37:27-04:00

Yes! Participants are charged individually, but it’s definitely more fun with a friend. We will take care of the video that we already know you’re gonna say is a must-have. Let your friends and co-workers in on the fun! We have packages that cater to all groups; regardless of group size, only two people allowed in rage room at any given time.

What is the purpose of a rage room?2022-08-22T17:36:55-04:00

Rage rooms are a trend that started in Japan in 2008 for employees of large companies as a stress reliever after elongated and overstressed work days. It has developed into a recreational activity here in America, but it serves the same purpose. People have stress. People have anxiety. People are just plain mad sometimes. Don’t hit cars (unless it’s one of our junkers), don’t hit people. Break otherwise useless things in a controlled environment  and then “mic-drop” your destructive tool of choice and walk away. We take care of the mess!

What are your operating hours?2022-08-22T17:36:48-04:00

Primitive Rage is by reservation only. Can’t just walk in all willy-nilly and expect to be given a hammer or a crow bar.   Our available timeslots will be listed below. Book in advance! As the only facility in South Jersey, timeslots book out quickly.

Hours to be determined

How long are the sessions?2022-08-22T17:36:46-04:00

Our sessions cover a range of times. Single packages are approximately 25 minutes with 5 songs for up to 2 people. Four people are approximately 45 minutes with 9 songs. Packages of 5 people or more are custom. Times are for booking purposes only. The price is for the package, not the time. Please reach out for more details.

Is there an age restriction?2022-08-22T17:36:14-04:00

You must be 18 with valid ID to participate in a session at Primitive Rage. Exceptions can be made on a case by case basis for minors with an adult present and a signed waiver. Ages 17 and under please call the facility. We totally get that your parents said that it was okay, but our insurance company doesn’t agree!!

Can you consume alcohol while smashing?2022-08-22T17:36:06-04:00

Abso-freakin’-lutely not.  For your own safety and that of our instructors and any fellow participants we prohibit the consumption of alcohol during your rage session.

I have a box of crap at my house, can I bring it?2022-08-22T17:36:01-04:00

Yes! We have BYOC (BRING YOUR OWN CRAP)  packages. This would include our destructive devices, your stuff, and a set amount of time to destroy it. We will even throw it away for you afterwards. So get that box of 90 year old china from the basement that you don’t know what to do with!

What about taking pictures?2022-08-22T17:31:58-04:00

Pics are great -but we DO NOT ADVISE taking your cell phones into the rage room with you. Have someone take photos for you through our large viewing window. If you take it in, it’s on you.

Do you have discounts for walk-ins?2022-08-22T17:31:52-04:00

We offer a walk-in punch card! Walk-in 5 times and get the 6th session free!! Ask our front desk about the punch card.

How do walk-ins work?2022-08-22T17:28:34-04:00
  • Walk-ins are first come, first serve.
  • We reserve a set of throwing lanes for general walk-ins.
  • 4+ is needed for group reservation, 6+ guarantees you your own arena. 4+ can pay the difference and get a private coach and arena for group sessions. We will not pair you with other groups unless notified prior to booking for special events. (On Saturdays after 5pm there is a minimum of 6 guests for a group reservation).
  • You may be asked to come back when we are less busy. We do our best to accommodate everyone.
  • If you have 6 or more people we strongly recommend booking a group event.
  • Walk-In hours are subject to change.
